Good news! Thanks to the additional donations received from individuals, churches, and through property sales, Maritime Conference has been able to make an “extra” payment of $150,000 against the principal of the mortgage. The incredible effect of this payment is that over $426,000 in interest has been saved, and the length of the mortgage has been shortened by 3 years and 9 months! The terms of the mortgage allow for such an extra payment to be made once per year, on the anniversary date in September. Donations remain strong and...read more

The 2013 Conference Annual Meeting made the decision to extend the Conference Fundraising project to include a direct invitation to congregations (Pastoral Charges). This invitation was sent by letter mail in mid-June, addressed to the “Secretary of Board/Council.” Each letter contained specific statistical information unique to each Pastoral Charge, and offered some suggestions for ways in which a fundraising objective might be calculated. The approach is intended to be invitational, and asks each Pastoral Charge to consider their...read more
The Rev. Mike Mugford offers this Moment for Mission which he wrote for the Kingston Pastoral Charge inviting a pledge to the Maritime Conference Archives Fundraising Project. He offered to share it as a ‘good idea’ with the rest of the conference. Moment for Mission “Why on earth would we spend $3 million building a new Archives and Conference Centre when churches all over the place are without ministers, struggling to meet local expenses or even worse, closing their doors for good?!” It’s a fair question that deserves a...read more
Recently a cheque arrived from St. Andrew’s Kirk, a congregation on the Andrew Donald Pastoral Charge in Saint John Presbytery. It came with a story and a prayer! The Rev. Karen MacNeill explains: “This spring, our congregation invited people to make a donation to the Conference Centre in memory of Rev. Doug Woods. Doug was raised in our congregation and was sponsored into ministry from here. His sister still attends regularly. We gave people three or four weeks to consider what they would like to give, made sure that gifts...read more

Why not just digitize it all and put it up on the internet? Why not cut back on other Conference expenses to make up the difference? I thought that you were looking for funds to...read more
A Conversation for 2 Written and shared by Edie Coughland, a lay delegate from Miramichi Presbytery, who “believes in this project from a personal perspective” and wanted to share her enthusiasm with her congregation. Voice 1 You know they have built a new archives center in Sackville? Voice 2 No who, and what does that mean? 1 Conference is who. Archives refers to documents or records relating to the activities of a business or organization: Keeping historic documents, in this case church documents. ...read more

The new Maritime Conference Centre was a busy spot last week hosting groups as diverse as a local Naturalist Club to Chignecto Presbytery. The Conference Executive met on the weekend. A report will soon be posted on-line but we wanted to share the Report from Bermuda Synod. How did Bermuda Synod come to be part of Maritime Conference? Because of Commonwealth relations and the the American Revolution, the Methodist Church in Bermuda forged closer relationships with the Methodist Church in Canada than the USA. After Union in 1925, the Wesleyan...read more
