6. SAVE THE DATE!  November 4th – Mental Health Work Moving Forward

This is an invitation to any who have an interest in or a passion for dealing with mental health concerns in churches and the community at large.  The Mental Health Working Group of the Church in Action Committee of Maritime Conference is hosting a gathering on November 4th to move its work forward.  Mark your calendar!

The gathering will be held at the Maritime Conference Centre in Sackville, NB starting at 10:00 am and windup by 3:30 pm.  Light lunch provided.

PURPOSES FOR THE DAY:

1.) To begin evolving a plan for Maritime Conference’s strategic approach to offering mental health awareness-building, programming, and services in faith communities and beyond.

2.) To form a network of people with a longer term interest in supporting the work of the Mental Health Working Group of the Maritime Conference Church in Action Committee.

The discussions will center upon the priorities identified by Maritime Conference in May 2017 and how best the Conference, Presbyteries and Pastoral Charges can implement these priorities.   It is intended that at this gathering a core group will be formed to lead the Working Group’s work over the longer term; sub-groups will take up particular interests; and timelines for initiatives will be sketched out.

You can help make a difference!

8. Common Vision Concerts coming to three locations in the Maritimes

Canadian Foodgrains Bank “envisions a world without hunger and believes that every person is created and loved by God and has the right to adequate food.” You are invited to join in this vision of ensuring more people have access to food.  “Common Vision” concerts help by singing to end hunger.  A central part of the Common Vision presentations across Canada features a medley of the hymns and songs of Saskatchewan poet, and former UCC Moderator, Walter Farquharson and BC composer, Ron Klusmeier.

In 2016, the first of these Canadian Foodgrains Bank national awareness events (Spring into Song) was presented in 41 Canadian communities, raising $80,000 to provide food for the hungry of our world.  This was a follow-up to the 2012-2013 Tour of a Lifetime which saw Ron and his partner Christina presenting 135 concerts across Canada and raising another $60,000 for Canadian Foodgrains Bank.

Common Vision takes those two important initiatives to the next level.  Please consider attending one of the three concerts coming up in October or even hosting a Common Vision concert in your church or community!
