3. #TrueStory: Invitation to Table Group Facilitators, 93rd Annual Meeting of Maritime Conference

I’m writing to the members of Maritime Conference with an invitation on behalf of the Annual Meeting 2018 Planning Committee.

To say that The United Church of Canada and the Maritime Conference are moving through days of change and challenge is an understatement. The 93rd Annual Meeting of Maritime Conference will quite possibly be our last meeting in our current shape and structure. Although detailed information related to our future is unavailable at this time, the Annual Meeting Planning Committee is working to create an agenda that allows significant time for discussion, reflection and discernment. Most importantly, we will take time to celebrate the story of Maritime Conference as we have been and as we may become: #TrueStory.

8. Halifax Presbytery Workshop – Beyond Snakes and Shamrocks – April 6 & 7

The Rev. Dr. Ross Lockhart, Associate Professor at St. Andrew’s Hall at The University of British Columbia will be leading a workshop on Missional Leadership on April 6 and 7th at Cole Harbour Woodside United Church.

Ross is the founding Director of The Centre for Missional Leadership. He is author of Lessons from Laodicea:  Missional Leadership in a Culture of Affluence and his forthcoming work Beyond Snakes and Shamrocks:  St. Patrick’s Missional Leadership Lessons for Today will be published in early 2018.

Ross will be sharing the lessons from his latest book and inviting us to think about how we can reach out to our own communities with the Good news of the Gospel.

As Ross writes, “There is wisdom in the missional leadership of the one we call St. Patrick that goes well beyond tales of snakes and shamrocks. How might Patrick’s mission experience with pre-Christian peoples direct our contemporary missional encounter with post-Christian peoples? Come explore the story of the shepherd slave turned shepherd of souls and discover that there is power still in the legacy of Patrick, when combined with the Spirit-filled presence and purpose of the risen Christ.”

The workshop will start at 1pm on the 6th with sessions in the afternoon and evening and Saturday morning and afternoon. Registration is $150 which includes supper on Friday and lunch on Saturday.
