This video documents the story of a woman who survived the experience of being a ‘comfort woman’ (a woman used as a sexual slave by the Japanese army during the Second World War). After 50 years of silence, she was finally able to speak openly about her experience. The video includes interviews with other survivors of a similar experience and Jan’s own daughters respond in personal ways. Also documented are portions of Jan Ruff-O’Herne’s public testimony and that of others, at public hearings held in Japan in 1996.
